CF Show Remnants
2004-09-27 -- Morgan
Ahhh...Cannibal Flower! What can I say that you haven't heard before? All those prior e-mails and posts warned of wall to wall art coupled with the sublime music of MAGNA, plus a touch of the unexpected -- and that's what you got! Thanks to everybody who came down for sticking it out until the wee hours and enduring the heat -- that's how it goes when you do it in the LA underground art and music scene. And we all know there's fun to be had when you're sweaty and awake in the middle of the night (notice how I avoided adding a quip about having fun times with 600 other sweat-caked night owls -- oh, I guess I didn't)!

Super big thanks to L.C. and Michelle at Cannibal Flower and Phil from Hanger 1018 for having us and making sure we were able to puncture eardrums and wound your minds - in a good way. It would be too difficult to shout out everybody who came from near and far, but if we spent a few moments talking or even stole a glance during the performance, know that we took note you were there and are thankful. There were also many new faces in tow, and we absolutely appreciate that you brought your friends, neighbors, and local constables. Obviously the pyramid scheme is working and your payments will begin shortly. To all you first-timers, I hope we were gentle and made you feel comfortable. MAGNA remembers it's first time too...let's get together again, shall we?

Since I hold no monopoly on ass-kissing, head on over to the MAGNA forum for a taste of Dan's puckering and drop some of your own reviews of the show (and peep the set list). Besides, he has the honest sincerity that I somehow put across as a cry for medication. But this isn't about my mental states, this is about MAGNA and our sheer joy from performing for you. On behalf of the boys in the band, it was a treat to play and everything we had hoped the show would be (even under the duress of 'techmology' issues and scuttled dinner plans). And we will continue to be selfless out of our love of music and for the ongoing battle against that which is dull and sucks. Thanks for letting us do our thing so that you could do yours...

Photographic evidence of the Cannibal Flower show will be posted shortly, and while the official announcement is forthcoming, here's a hint as to our next show.

FLAVORPILL!
2004-09-21 -- Morgan
Welcome to any and all who've found their way here through FLAVORPILL, and thanks for being adventurous. If you've come this far, go just a touch further to Cannibal Flower this Sat. Sept. 25 to get the full impact of our music and live show, but have fun exploring our site in the meantime. We hope to see you there, and thanks again, especially to the fine folks at FLAVORPILL for spreading the word on MAGNA.

And to those friends and fans already in the know about MAGNA, check out and sign up over at FLAVORPILL. Once a week you'll get an email covering the best arts, music, and cultural events in Los Angeles (and for you out-of-towners, you can sign up for editions specific to Chicago, San Francisco, New York, or London). Know that the good people at FLAVORPILL do not accept money from venues, promoters, or artists to list events -- they only recommend events that are worthwhile, with the motive to spread an appreciation and love of culture, the arts, and entertainment.

Yes it must be good if there are five links to FLAVORPILL.

I am not a crackpot.

I find the information on this website to be offensive and well outside the limits of the first amendment. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Smut peddlers. That's what I think of you! Smut peddlers! The whole damn lot of you.

I look forward to attending one of your performances in the near future.

Kind regards.

Russell

What makes America great? Is it DVD porn that can be ordered on the internet and sent to your house within 24 hours? Is it two apple pies for a dollar at McDonalds? Is it Britney Spears and her second marriage in nine months, to a guy with a toddler and a newborn from another woman? No, it is none of these things although they are all great.

America is great because it is made of people like Russell. When the Pilgrims went looking for the Grand Canyon in 1864, did they know how it would make this country great? No. When Johnny Carson won the heavyweight title during the Revolutionary War, did he know how it would make this country great? No. When George Washington became the first man on the moon, did we know how it would make this country great? No. There are a lot of things we don't know, and that is why there are schools and children. Ask any child and they'll tell you that Russell is an American, and that's good enough.

So before the corporations try and saturate our lives with their products and control us, let's take a moment to think about America and all the freedom we give up to have all the other freedoms that some countries don't have. And let's think about Russell, who makes us think about these important issues. We feel a touch of pride and a slight tinge of shame, but we do so in the hopes that the children will not have another magazine drive for their school, because nobody wants to have to buy Reader's Digest. We prefer the $1 chocolate bar fund raiser.

Looking forward to seeing you at our next show...

Cannibal Flower!
2004-09-01 -- Morgan
You wanted big, supercool news so here it is - MAGNA is playing at this month's Cannibal Flower art show! Our very own Kristin Baker (she of the fantastic MAGNA EP + t-shirts.) will be displaying some of her latest masterpieces, as well as our amigos Joe Ledbetter and Thomas Han, who are the current featured artists. We've been enjoying this monthly underground art scene party and are thrilled to be able to invite you to observe an amazing group show and performance. There will be plenty of stunning sights and sounds, and for only $7 you can't get any better deal on pure entertainment. No, you can't!

Go to your calendar right now and mark September 25th for MAGNA and Cannibal Flower. Doors open at 9:30 and there will be plenty to keep you aroused and excited until they toss us all out at 2am, and MAGNA will be rocking you around 11:30. It's located at Hangar 1018, conveniently located at 1018 Santa Fe Ave. in the bosom of Downtown LA. This is going to be a kick ass feast of both music and fine art, so please come and sample the many flavors of this delicious assemblage of talent.
